Assamese Animated Short Chyimi Wins International Award in Greece

Guwahati: The animated short film Chyimi, directed by Dr. Parthasarathi Mahanta, has earned an Honourable Mention in the Best Short Film category at the Athens Marathon Film Awards. This latest accolade continues a successful global tour for the project, which has received significant praise for its artistic style and emotional narrative.

Before the recognition in Greece, the film secured Best Short Film awards at both the Jaipur International Film Festival and the New York Short Animation Festival. During the event in New York, Dr. Mahanta also received the Best Director Award for his leadership on the project. The film, produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, has reached international audiences through festival screenings and partnerships with institutions such as Cine Universitario UACJ in Mexico.

Dr. Mahanta, who serves as the IGP of Assam Police and Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, emphasized the importance of regional storytelling on a global scale. He stated, "The film’s achievements demonstrate how stories rooted in local culture can connect with viewers across different regions and backgrounds."

The creative team expressed gratitude toward the juries and audiences that supported the film. The success of Chyimi represents a growing international presence for Assamese cinema, proving that regional stories can effectively transcend cultural and geographical boundaries.
