Guwahati: Jahangir Alam, 25, died from dengue while seeking work in Kerala. The Nagaon man was receiving care for the virus but lost his battle on June 25. He lived in Purba Singimari village in Rupahihat.

His family could not afford to bring him home. Costs were too high. The Assam government stepped in to handle the transport under its Shraddhanjali Scheme. The remains reached his village on June 28 for final rites.

Villagers and relatives gathered to mourn the loss. The family thanked state officials for the support provided during their crisis. They also requested the government keep the program alive, saying, "The bereaved family expressed gratitude to the State government for providing timely assistance during their difficult time."
