Guwahati: Assam just graduated 200 women from a specialized hospitality training program. This marks a new phase for the state's Lakhpati Didi initiative. The project aims to turn local women into business owners rather than just handing out cash. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the progress on June 25.

Sarma says the state is focused on building real skills. Trainees learn how to run enterprises, manage businesses, and handle the professional demands of the hospitality sector. These women now have the tools to operate their own ventures through efforts like the ASOMI Rongali Canteens. The program pushes for long-term self-reliance.

"The initiative goes beyond providing financial assistance and focuses on nurturing talent, building capacities and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women," Sarma stated. The government wants to see these women become the next generation of changemakers across Assam. This training is part of a broader push to grow the state economy by boosting women-led businesses.
