Guwahati: Assam officials just wrapped up proof of concept trials for India's Broadband Public Protection and Disaster Relief network. Guwahati hosted the event to fix gaps in how agencies talk during crises. Akhilesh Kumar Singh, the Inspector General of Police for Law and Order, led the proceedings. He worked alongside representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the CRPF, and state police.
Teams set up a dispatcher console at the fire and emergency services office. Workers handed out specialized handheld devices to crews from the NDRF, SDRF, and various central armed forces. Airtel provided the signal. These gadgets help units swap data and talk in real time. Better gear saves lives.
This initiative builds a national broadband network for public safety. It aims to cut through the noise of a disaster zone. The project seeks to "enhance coordination among first responders, improve situational awareness, and strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities across agencies during critical incidents and disaster situations." Better links mean faster help when it counts.
