Guwahati: Assam wants to hit 10 lakh litres of daily milk production. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says this move will secure self-sufficiency and pump money into the rural economy. The state is handing out subsidies to more than 25,000 dairy farmers to lift productivity and fatten paychecks.
Sarma pushed the agenda on social media. "Every glass of milk nourishes a family and strengthens the rural economy," he said. He added that the mission is clear: "Our mission is to produce 10 lakh litres of milk every day."
The government is backing the goal with scientific breeding, better livestock care, and more veterinary clinics. Officials want to cut down on milk imports from other states. They are also working to fix fodder supply lines and build better collection networks.
Dairy farming acts as a vital side income for small-scale farmers in the region. The state is now betting on the dairy industry to grow jobs in processing and logistics. Officials view this as a primary driver for long-term rural growth.
