Assam student killed by lightning strike during football match

Guwahati: A 16-year-old student died after being struck by lightning while playing football in the Upendranagar F.V. village of Assam's Gossaigaon subdivision. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon as severe weather conditions moved through the area.

The victim, Theophil Murmu, was a Class 10 student and a resident of the local Upendra village. According to residents who witnessed the event, Murmu was on the field with friends when the lightning strike caused critical injuries.

Family members transported him to a nearby hospital, but medical staff declared him dead upon arrival. Following the incident, police recovered the body and transferred it to Kokrajhar on Monday to conduct a post-mortem examination.

The loss of the student has deeply affected the local community. Residents expressed sorrow over the event, mourning what many described as the "loss of a promising young life."
