Guwahati: Young skater Navhyam Nihan Borah from Assam earned a silver medal while representing India at the International Speed Skating Championship 2026. Held in Jakarta from May 29 to 31, the competition featured talented athletes from nations including Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Indonesia.
Borah secured his second-place finish in the 400-metre speed race within the Basic Inline Skating Boys Category C. His performance demonstrated significant speed and technical skill on the international stage. Beyond this podium finish, Borah reached the semi-finals of the 500-metre event and narrowly missed the final round of the 300-metre race.
The young athlete also joined two other Indian skaters for the 1,800-metre international team relay. While the trio finished the race successfully, they fell just short of a medal based on final times. This international appearance builds on a successful year for Borah, who claimed a championship title at the 25th National Speed Skating Championship in Chennai earlier in 2026.
His achievements have garnered praise across his home state, where he is increasingly viewed as a top prospect for Indian skating. This tournament provided Borah with critical experience against regional competitors, marking a major milestone in his developing athletic career.
