Assam School Faces Probe Over Dirty Water and Missed Meals

Guwahati: Students at Alok Primary School in the Charaideo district are going hungry. Local parents claim head teacher Meera Bhumij stopped the mid-day meal service on Monday despite the cook being ready to work. The move left kids without their entitled food.

Things get worse in the kitchen. Staff are cooking with muddy, yellow water because the school filter is broken. Residents fear for the health of the children, but the head teacher refuses to back down. Bhumij told reporters the meal suspension happened because students leave early after exams, adding, "The decision to suspend the preparation of mid-day meals was taken with the consent of staff members."

Bhumij admitted the water is poor but defended its use for cooking. The community is fed up with the lack of hygiene. Locals are now pressuring the education department to launch a formal inquiry into the school management and the failure of the mid-day meal scheme.
