Guwahati: Assam kicked off the Village-Based Growth Rural Advancement Mission on Thursday in Bokakhat. This project aligns with a national rollout pushed by the Union Ministry of Rural Development. The goal is simple: fix rural infrastructure, create jobs, and improve daily life in villages.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora attended the district launch. He linked the project directly to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bora noted the mission seeks to bring technology and sustainability to the state. "The initiative would accelerate inclusive, sustainable and technology-driven development in villages across the country," he said.
Changes to the employment scheme are immediate. Officials pushed the guaranteed work limit from 100 days up to 125 days for every eligible household. Wages saw a bump, too. No daily pay will fall below 300 rupees. The national average daily wage now sits at 327.40 rupees.
The central government set aside over 95,000 crore rupees to keep the lights on and pay workers on time. Rules now allow for 318 types of work, up from the previous 266. This includes everything from building roads to managing natural resources. Women must hold at least 33 percent of the generated jobs.
Digital tools will track the progress. Every new asset gets geo-tagged to stop fraud. Minister Bora asked local officials and self-help groups to stay on top of the work to help build a self-reliant India.
