Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that beneficiaries will receive funds under the Jibon Prerana and CM Flight schemes starting September 1. He made the announcement August 30 following a state Cabinet meeting.

The cabinet signed off on a 50,000 crore investment package to bankroll infrastructure and social projects, starting in the 2027-28 fiscal year. The state plans to pay for these works using its own coffers, NABARD loans, and central government grants. The money targets primary healthcare, schools, Anganwadi centers, tea garden housing, power grids, and anti-flood embankments. The plan also includes funding for women's markets, hostels, and industrial estate development.
Healthcare gets a major boost with a 600 crore proton beam therapy unit at Guwahati Medical College. This will be the first facility of its kind in the public sector and only the third in the country overall. It allows for precise cancer radiation while sparing healthy tissue.
Cabinet ministers also greenlit a 30 MW solar project with battery storage in Goalpara. They allocated 1,174 bighas of land for new industrial estates and cleared 155 crore for a railway overbridge in Lanka to unclog traffic. Gauhati University will receive 109 crore for campus upgrades, including new buildings and auditorium repairs. Finally, officials extended the deadline for tea garden land valuation to settle stamp duty and kept the 105 rupee per kg price tag on subsidized dal and sugar for 70 lakh families.
