Assam Rifles hosts screening of Naga history documentary in Shillong

Shillong: The Assam Rifles hosted a screening of the documentary Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History at its Headquarters Directorate General in Laitkor, Shillong. The film records the experiences of the Naga people by featuring perspectives from both community elders and younger generations. It acts as a project to secure indigenous heritage and encourage social harmony across the Northeast.

Parasher Baruah directed the film, which was conceptualized by Vibha Lakhera as part of Project Empathy. This initiative aims to bridge social gaps using storytelling. The event drew top military officials, including chief guest Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, and Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, the Director General of Assam Rifles. Numerous senior Army officers and other dignitaries also filled the venue.

Vibha Lakhera addressed the audience following the film. She noted that storytelling has the power to build empathy, bridge social divides and strengthen community bonds. The Assam Rifles stated that the event confirms its ongoing dedication to protecting the cultural traditions of the Northeast while pushing for national integration and dialogue through community engagement.
