Shillong: Assam Rifles held a screening of the documentary Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History this past Saturday. The event took place at the Directorate General Assam Rifles headquarters in Laitkor. The film examines the cultural heritage and traditions of the Naga people.
Vibha Lakhera, who founded Project Empathy, conceptualized the film. Parasher Baruah directed the project. It features interviews with community elders and the youth to highlight indigenous roots. Stories bridge the gap between generations. The film emphasizes reconciliation.
The Assam Rifles Public School Choir performed the song Walk With Me for the first time in public during the event. Organizers promote the track as India’s Empathy Anthem to encourage solidarity across the nation. It originates from the Naga Oral History Project.
Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Air Command, attended as the chief guest. He was joined by Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, the DG of Assam Rifles. Other attendees included students, civilians, and senior officers from the Indian Army. Following the film, Lakhera addressed the crowd. She said, "The power of storytelling to build social cohesion and mutual understanding" remains a vital tool for the future.
