Shillong: Aakash Educational Services Limited opened its first Meghalaya coaching centre this Friday. It sits at Don Bosco Square in Laitumkhrah. This is the 10th AESL facility across the Northeast. The 7,000-square-foot building holds six classrooms and supports over 300 students. It offers prep for national exams like NEET and IIT-JEE.
AESL also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Assam Rifles to offer tuition relief. Families of personnel who die in harness receive a 100 per cent fee waiver. Gallantry awardees and troops with over 20 per cent disability get 90 per cent off. Those with less than 20 per cent disability secure a 50 per cent break. Retired staff and students of Assam Rifles Public Schools get 30 per cent concessions.
The deal includes academic mentoring and career seminars. Students also get fee protection if their families face sudden transfers. AESL CEO Chandra Sekhar Garisa Reddy says the centre keeps local talent in the state. He said, "The collaboration with Assam Rifles is part of a broader commitment to support the educational aspirations of defence families." The company already maintains similar training partnerships with the Indian Army, BSF, CRPF, and ITBP.
