Guwahati: Assam has reached a significant milestone with 96.4 percent electricity coverage across the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the update on May 31, crediting the progress to sustained efforts aimed at modernizing and strengthening the local power sector.

The Chief Minister noted that the state has undergone a major transformation in its infrastructure over the last ten years. While reliable power supply was previously a persistent challenge for both rural and urban regions, the state is now approaching near-saturation levels of electrification.

Key factors driving this increase include the expansion of the grid network, improved power management, and better last-mile connectivity. The government also lowered domestic tariff rates to help residents gain access to the system. Sarma emphasized that the administration remains dedicated to maintaining an affordable and dependable energy supply for all households throughout the state.
