Assam police seize over 33 lakh in fake currency

Guwahati: Police in Assam seized over 33 lakh in fake currency on Monday. The bust went down at 5:30 a.m. in front of the Dholpur Police Outpost. Officers stopped a hatchback, registration number AS01GK7439, during a routine check.

The car was headed from Bongalmora toward Guwahati. Inside, the officer in charge and his team found a massive stash of counterfeit notes. The total face value of the recovered cash hit 33,59,500 rupees.

Authorities arrested two men on the spot. The suspects are Jehirul Islam, 28, and Haidar Ali, 29. Both live in Doulatpur. Police also grabbed two mobile phones from the vehicle.

The operation highlights a growing effort to curb the flow of illegal bills. Local law enforcement is continuing to investigate the source of the fake notes.
