Assam Police Seize Cattle Vehicles Ahead of Bakrid

Guwahati: Assam police have ramped up vehicle inspections across central districts to monitor cattle transport ahead of Bakrid. During a recent operation in the Nagaon district, officers from the Batadrava station stopped five vehicles and rescued 17 cattle.

Authorities intercepted the trucks during routine road checks. When asked to provide ownership and transport documentation, some individuals were unable to produce the necessary paperwork. One driver and a cattle owner fled the scene after promising to return later with the documents, leaving the vehicles behind.

Initial reports indicate the animals were being moved after being traded at the bi-weekly Shantijan market in Batadrava. While the police have kept the vehicles as part of an ongoing investigation, they returned the livestock to individuals who could verify ownership with valid papers. The remaining animals without legal documentation were relocated to a local gaushala.
