Assam Police make record 54 crore gold bust in Guwahati

Guwahati: Guwahati police seized over 54 crore worth of suspected gold in the city's largest haul ever. Officers raided a property in the Kharghuli area during the night of June 29 and 30, recovering 37.064 kilograms of the metal. They also grabbed 13 grams of silver nodules.

Latasil police officers made the move after getting tips from the Special Operations Group. They took Akshay Bansode, 32, into custody at the scene. He is a native of Sangli district in Maharashtra. The police also grabbed four mobile phones, a small amount of cash, and the bags used to hide the goods.

The suspect could not show any legal paperwork for the haul. "The accused failed to produce any legal documents for the seized consignment," police stated. Bansode remains locked up as the investigation grows.

Detectives now suspect this stash links to an international smuggling ring. The trail leads to the Middle East and Myanmar. Domestic connections also span across Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Investigators are currently tracing the money and looking for past shipments.
