Guwahati: Kokrajhar police seized 30,000 bottles of illegal Codeine syrup during a routine checkpoint operation in Gossaigaon on May 23. Officers discovered the contraband hidden inside a truck that was reportedly transporting cattle feed. The driver was taken into custody, and authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the broader smuggling network responsible for the shipment.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the team for their vigilance, emphasizing the government's ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking across the state. This operation follows another successful effort on May 22, when Cachar police intercepted a boat on the Barak River. In that incident, officials recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets and 21 grams of heroin, resulting in two arrests.

These recent seizures are part of an intensified anti-narcotics campaign that has been active across Assam for several months. Enforcement agencies are currently focusing on increased border surveillance and intelligence-led raids to combat the movement of banned substances. Police note that traffickers are frequently using the region as a transit corridor, utilizing diverse routes ranging from remote river channels to interstate highways.
