Assam Police Intercept Illegal Cattle Shipment in Dhubri

Guwahati: Assam police seized four head of cattle during a boat operation in the Kuntir Char area of Dhubri district. The raid was part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal cattle transportation along the Brahmaputra River, as smugglers increasingly rely on isolated island areas to bypass highway checkpoints.

Led by the Dhubri Sadar Police Station, the river patrol intercepted the vessel after receiving reports of illicit activity. While no arrests have been made, officials have opened an investigation to identify the boat owners and trace the source of the animals.

This enforcement action follows a recent agreement between the Dhubri district administration and local religious organizations. The District Markaz Committee and the local Eidgah Committee have issued a voluntary public ban on the slaughter of cows and buffaloes within Dhubri town limits.

Police intend to increase surveillance across vulnerable riverine routes in the coming days. These patrols are designed to dismantle the networks that move livestock through the region using remote waterways.
