Guwahati: Assam police stopped a major terror attack in Tinsukia on June 28. Officers arrested four men linked to a plot by the banned militant group ULFA-I. Two of the detainees are suspected cadres accused of previous kidnappings and attacks on commando camps. They planned to storm the town to unleash grenade blasts and gunfire on civilians.
Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar confirmed the successful raid. "We were able to thwart this plan. We are maintaining heightened security and a high level of alertness," Kumar said. Security forces caught the men with two AK-series rifles, 172 rounds of ammunition, and two grenades. They also found survival gear and food supplies in the suspects' possession.
The investigation led to the arrests of Bitu Bora and Kalpa Bora. Police claim these two men provided logistical support to the militants. Bitu Bora allegedly supplied a Swift car used by the cadres. Kalpa Bora, an official with the All Assam Motok Yuva Chatra Parishad, faces charges for aiding the outfit. Suspects told police that senior ULFA-I leader Aiseng Asom ordered the operation. Security forces are now searching for other members of the network.
