Guwahati: Assam police hauled in 62 fake doctors since the start of 2025. The state government launched this sweep to purge unqualified quacks from the healthcare system. Officials have registered 59 criminal cases throughout the ongoing investigation.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests on social media. The crackdown follows previous state efforts to dismantle drug syndicates and end child marriage. The government claims these raids are necessary to protect vulnerable patients.

Sarma posted, "We're committed to weed out all forms of evil from our society. After an extensive crackdown on the drug syndicate and child marriage offenders, we're on a mission to crack down on quack doctors to ensure the sanctity of our healthcare system and protect patients."

Authorities focused on individuals practicing medicine without valid degrees or proper registration. Raids hit multiple districts over the last year. The government intends to maintain professional standards and stop fraudulent care across the state.
