Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government is exploring the development of a logistics hub at Rupsi Airport. The proposal aims to leverage the airport's strategic location near the Bodoland Territorial Region, West Bengal, and Bangladesh to strengthen regional infrastructure.

Sarma discussed the project during a recent trip to New Delhi, emphasizing that the airport's connectivity to Guwahati and the Siliguri corridor makes it an ideal location for trade movement. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East policy, which seeks to improve economic integration across India's northeastern states.

Highlighting the airport's regional importance, the Chief Minister said, "Rupsi Airport holds significant strategic value due to its proximity to Bangladesh, West Bengal and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), along with its connectivity advantages within the region." Officials are currently examining expansion opportunities and the feasibility of establishing the facility as a central logistics node.
