Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled plans for major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity across the state. The announcement followed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sarma expects these initiatives to receive formal approval within the coming months.
The centerpiece of the plan is a four-lane highway connecting Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali in Tezpur. This corridor will link with the proposed Guwahati Ring Road, enabling motorists to travel toward Jagiroad, Nagaon, and Upper Assam while bypassing the traffic congestion within Guwahati city. Sarma stated that these infrastructure initiatives form part of the government's broader vision to transform Assam's transport network and support economic growth through improved road connectivity.
In addition to the highway, the state plans to construct a new flyover corridor linking Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport with Gauhati University. This project aims to enhance urban mobility and relieve pressure on critical routes throughout the capital city. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the timeline for these developments and noted that the state is prepared for their implementation once the final clearances are granted.
