Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered a major shakeup of the state's e-Transit Permit system this week. He gathered top brass from the Finance and Environment and Forest Departments to plug holes in the state budget. The meeting focused on squeezing more cash out of timber and mining operations.
Sarma wants a tighter grip on how resources move across state lines. He told officials to fix the e-TP platform immediately to stop tax dodgers in their tracks. Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah confirmed the agenda after the briefing. "Discussions centred on improving resource management, strengthening revenue generation and enhancing regulatory oversight," Baruah said.
The administration is hunting for revenue leakages. They plan to use tech to track shipments and stop GST fraud. This push for accountability aims to clean up the sector. Stricter rules will govern all mineral and forest exports from now on.
