Guwahati: Assam officials put state agencies on high alert today. Heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh triggered a major flood threat for downstream districts. The Yazali area in the Lower Subansiri district soaked up 72.8 mm of rain in one day. That surge is now rushing toward Assam.

River levels will jump in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, and Sonitpur. The flood wave moves downstream over the next two days. It leaves low-lying areas at extreme risk of drowning. District leaders have orders to watch riverbanks and embankments around the clock.

Emergency teams are ready. The State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force sit on standby for quick deployment. Authorities want residents to stay clear of rising water. "People have been advised to avoid entering waterlogged or inundated areas and to exercise caution near riverbanks," the government stated.

Officials banned travel in small boats. The currents will grow dangerous as water flows from the upper catchment. The government is keeping evacuation plans ready. They want all relief arrangements in place before the river peaks.
