Guwahati: Guwahati faces another season of floods. State officials gathered at Janata Bhawan to overhaul the city's drainage master plan and fix the Bahini-Bharalu Basin. Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai led the meeting to target the city's chronic waterlogging.

Technical experts and consultants reviewed the current proposals. They want a system that actually works when the rain falls hard. Rai ordered the team to sharpen their designs and fix technical gaps before any final approval. He wants a plan that handles the reality of the monsoon.

Minister Rai said, "The need for a practical and resilient drainage framework capable of effectively mitigating waterlogging across the city" remains the priority. Everyone needs to work together now. City infrastructure is on the line.

The review included top officials from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and the PWD. They discussed efficiency and long-term climate resilience. The government expects these departments to coordinate closely to end the cycle of urban flooding. Work on the revised plans starts immediately.
