Guwahati: Authorities launched an eviction drive this week to clear illegal structures from the Chandardinga Pagla Baba Temple in Bilasipara. Local MLA Jibesh Roy ordered the sweep after visiting the site on Friday to inspect reports of land grabbing. He brought police and administrators to verify the damage.

Roy gave officials a two-day deadline to finish the job. He also plans to lock down the borders of the property with permanent pillars. Future income from the temple, including local shops and tempo stands, will shift to a public tender system to keep the books clean.

The legislator emphasized the need for community vigilance regarding public assets. During the inspection, he told reporters, "It is the collective responsibility of all of us to protect historical, religious and public places of importance. We will continue to take strict action against illegal encroachments to preserve our heritage."

Advocate Shahnawaz Hussain joined the MLA during the site visit. Local residents are backing the move, claiming the cleanup preserves the integrity of the historic site. Work remains ongoing to remove all illegal structures from the grounds.
