Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on September 11 that his administration is moving ahead with the Unified Pension Scheme. The state ranks among the first to adopt the framework for its workforce. Rules remain in development. Officials are currently drafting the legal framework to ensure the plan functions as intended.

The state government is coordinating with the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority and various Central Recordkeeping Agencies. These partnerships aim to build a transparent system. Sarma wants a smooth rollout. He addressed the workforce directly regarding the transition period. He stated, "I assure our employees that the Government is fully committed to implementing the Scheme. I seek their patience, understanding and continued trust."

The Central government created the scheme as a new pension path. Assam officials mirrored that choice by approving the program for state-level staff. Sarma asked workers to wait while the bureaucracy grinds forward. He insists the commitment remains firm despite the ongoing technical work.
