Guwahati: Rupamoni Gorh, a mountaineer from Assam, reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 21 as part of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police All-Women Everest Expedition 2026. This mission marked the first time the police force has launched an all-women international team to the top of the world's highest peak. The project aimed to highlight the strength of women and their increasing presence in high-altitude adventure.

The successful operation began at 8 am under the guidance of team leader Bhanita Timungpi. The climbing effort was supported by technical lead Anoop Kumar and IFMGA guide Sonam Chhiring Lama. The 14-member contingent included 11 female climbers, who followed the South Col route from Nepal. The team had set out from New Delhi on April 19 to begin their journey.

Gorh’s achievement marks a rare milestone for mountaineers from Assam. Expedition officials praised the entire group and their Sherpa support team for their endurance and courage. Logistics for the climb were provided by the partner organization Seven Summit Treks.
