Assam MLA Promises Justice for Slain Student Leader in Nalbari

Guwahati: Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah visited the family of slain student leader Madhurjya Barman on June 2 to offer condolences following a violent attack in Assam’s Gangapur region. Accompanied by Barkhetri MLA Narayan Deka, Baruah met with the grieving family to pledge the state government’s full support.

Baruah expressed shock over the incident, which also left a young woman critically injured and sparked widespread outrage across the region. During the visit, the MLA addressed growing public concern regarding similar crimes in the state. He labeled the rising trend of incidents described as love jihad as deeply saddening and promised that the government would pursue strict action against those responsible.

The government has committed to providing financial assistance to Barman’s family. When questioned about potential property demolition involving the deceased accused, Roz Ali, Baruah noted that such decisions rest with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Further actions are expected following a planned visit to the residence by the Chief Minister.
