Assam MLA Orders Seven-Day Deadline to Settle District Boundary Dispute

Guwahati: Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami ordered local officials Friday to settle the contested border between Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts. He gave them exactly seven days to finish the job. The order follows a field visit to the Borpani Reserve Forest.

Goswami met with revenue and forest department leads at the Borpani River bridge. He told Kampur Revenue Circle Officer Raji Hlinglenkim Chingchon and Range Forest Officer Shamim Akhtar to install physical markers along the line. This move aims to stop years of local friction.

The legislator also addressed the security of the Karbi people living in Nagaon. He promised land titles for local residents without property. "The Assam government would ensure the safety and security of members of the Karbi community residing in Nagaon district," Goswami stated.

Law enforcement must step up. Goswami instructed Deputy Superintendent of Police Sonmoni Saikia to block Karbi Anglong officials from shaking down sand miners or collecting illegal levies inside Nagaon. Police must hold the line. The state wants order at the border.
