Guwahati: Assam ministers Susanta Borgohain and Keshab Mahanta arrived in Gohpur on June 30. They came to inspect the banks of the Chakrang River. Water levels are climbing fast. Flooding and erosion have battered local communities.

Acting on orders from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the pair toured the wreckage. They later met with district administration heads and Water Resources Department staff to check readiness. Officials must now strengthen flood defenses. They also need to intensify anti-erosion work.

The government wants results. The ministers told staff to "ensure timely relief and assistance reaches all affected families." This visit marks a broader push by the state to guard vulnerable areas against rising waters.
