Guwahati: Assam minister Atul Bora has been assigned the Parliamentary Affairs Department on an interim basis. The appointment comes just ahead of the first session of the newly constituted Assembly, which is scheduled to begin this Thursday.

A notification issued on May 16 confirmed the decision made by the Governor on the advice of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Bora, who currently manages the Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development, and Excise departments, will now handle parliamentary matters as an additional responsibility.

This arrangement precedes a broader cabinet expansion that the Chief Minister expects to conduct once the current four-day Assembly session concludes on May 26. Other cabinet members have already assumed their specific roles. Rameswar Teli oversees Transformation and Development, Labour Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare. Charan Boro is in charge of Transport and the Welfare of Bodoland, while Ajanta Neog manages Women and Child Development alongside Tourism.
