Guwahati: Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ashok Singhal visited the historic Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji Gurudwara in Dhubri on June 11. Serving as the district's Guardian Minister, Singhal paid tribute to the ninth Sikh Guru, whose legacy of sacrifice and commitment to religious freedom remains a pillar of Indian history.
The shrine holds deep historical significance as the location where Guru Teg Bahadur Ji meditated for nearly six years. During his visit, Singhal recounted the challenges faced during the Mughal era, specifically referencing the plight of Kashmiri Pandits who sought the Guru's protection from persecution. He praised the Guru for standing firm in defense of human dignity and the freedom of faith.
Reflecting on the Guru's final act of defiance against oppression, the minister emphasized that his sacrifice serves as a defining moment for the nation. Singhal noted that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji is revered as "Hind Ki Chadar" or "The Shield of India" for his courage and selfless service.
Singhal expressed pride that the district houses such an important spiritual site. He confirmed that the state government is dedicated to protecting Dhubri's historical heritage while simultaneously promoting economic growth. He concluded by reiterating the government's focus on fostering communal harmony, unity, and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
