Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided broad updates on Assam governance this week. His administration is leveraging space technology, with the Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) finishing 60 projects in five years to aid planning and public service delivery. Meanwhile, the CM-FLIGHT program is expanding to teach youth Korean and German to boost overseas job prospects. Sarma noted, "The convergence of Assam's demographic potential and the global demand for skilled labour talent presents us one of the greatest opportunities."

Police data remains a primary focus. Since 2016, authorities registered 9,68,938 criminal cases. Chargesheets reached 54 percent of that total. Since taking office in 2021, Sarma oversaw 3,78,483 FIRs with 2,54,538 chargesheets filed. Officers arrested 4,26,502 people over the last five years, while courts convicted 29,164. Crimes against women totaled 2,04,134 cases over a decade, including 2,961 murders and 15,397 rapes. Officials filed chargesheets in 1,33,675 of these specific files.

Assam continues to manage the status of doubtful voters. Current electoral rolls hold 91,385 D-voters. Sonitpur holds the highest count at 13,719. Barpeta follows with 8,081, while Nagaon and Udalguri report over 7,800 each. The D-voter category started in 1997. Since then, Foreigners' Tribunals received 2,44,144 D-voter cases, disposing of 2,05,659. Tribunals declared 56,728 people as foreigners, with 65,171 confirmed as Indian citizens. Separately, Border Police referred 1,90,657 suspected cases to tribunals. Officials declared 1,15,945 foreigners from that group. To date, the state has expelled 31,789 declared foreigners.
