Guwahati: Assam’s capital spending skyrocketed over the last decade. Annual expenditure jumped from Rs 2,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 26,000 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says this 13-fold increase fuels the state’s push for new roads, schools, and hospitals to drive economic growth.

The state government labels this infrastructure drive the path toward a Viksit Assam. Officials claim every rupee spent works to modernize public services and create fresh opportunities for citizens across the region.

Law enforcement matched this aggressive growth with a tactical strike against local drug traffickers. Sribhumi police intercepted a massive narcotics haul worth Rs 10.8 crore during an overnight raid this Friday. Officers took one suspect into custody immediately after the seizure.

The Chief Minister praised the force for the bust while vowing to hunt down the rest of the network. Sarma wrote on X, "Rs 10.8 crore is a heavy price to pay for crossing paths with Assam Police." Investigators are now tracking down the remaining individuals involved in the racket.
