Guwahati: Assam pulled in 1,437 crore in GST revenue during June. This marks a 15 percent jump compared to the 1,255 crore collected in the same month last year. The state beat the national average of 9 percent. Assam now sits among the top-performing major states in the country.
Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah credited the growth to better tax compliance and new digital administration tools. The state also worked to plug revenue leaks and widen the tax base. Officials confirm Assam outperformed economic powerhouses like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, and West Bengal.
Total collections for the first quarter of the fiscal year hit 4,467 crore. This is a sharp rise from the 3,026 crore seen during the same period in 2025. Baruah praised the administration, stating, "The government remained committed to transparent governance, robust revenue mobilisation and strengthening the state's fiscal position."
The Minister also pointed to the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He says the administration remains focused on building a solid fiscal foundation for the state.
