Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya addressed the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly on Friday to outline the BJP-led government's vision for the next five years. He characterized the administration's third consecutive term as a clear public endorsement of its focus on economic stability, inclusive development, and peace.

The Governor's speech faced immediate disruption from Opposition lawmakers. Legislators from the Indian National Congress and Raijor Dal entered the Well of the House shortly after the address began, protesting issues like rising inflation and consumer prices. While Congress members staged an early walkout, Raijor Dal MLAs remained briefly to present a memorandum of demands before also leaving the chamber.

Despite the protests, Acharya praised the government's track record in restoring regional peace. He also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fiscal discipline, urging citizens to practice restraint in their spending. The Governor highlighted the upcoming introduction of the Uniform Civil Code during the current session, describing the proposed legislation as a vital step toward promoting social harmony, gender equality, and progress in the state.
