Assam Government Weighs Spending Cuts to Combat Rising Inflation

Guwahati: The Assam government is looking for ways to curb rising costs by reducing public expenditure. BJP leader Bhupen Bora stated that officials are exploring budget cuts across various sectors to create savings that can help citizens manage the impact of inflation.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted these concerns during a recent Assembly session. He specifically warned that any prolonged conflict between the United States and Iran could have adverse economic consequences for both India and the state of Assam.

Beyond economic policy, Bora addressed social issues by praising sections of the Muslim community for deciding against cow sacrifice during the upcoming Eid celebrations. He noted that this gesture demonstrates a respect for local cultural sentiments and promotes social harmony. He emphasized that residents should continue to practice their religious traditions while remaining mindful of Assam's broader cultural values.

Bora also reflected on the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking his 12 years in office as a period of significant development and progress for the Northeast. He urged the central government to prioritize bringing the banned militant group ULFA into formal peace negotiations, suggesting that such a move would be most effective under the combined leadership of Modi and Chief Minister Sarma.
