Assam Government to Distribute Rs 200 Crore to Women MFI Borrowers

Guwahati: The Assam government is set to distribute Rs 200 crore to women who have maintained regular repayments on their microfinance institution loans. This initiative represents the second part of phase one under the Assam Micro Finance Incentives and Relief Scheme.

State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog confirmed the plan during a meeting with deputy commissioners from the six targeted districts: Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, and Chirang. The government has identified approximately 1.42 lakh women eligible for these incentives.

This relief program fulfills a key campaign promise made by the BJP-led alliance during the previous assembly elections. Previously, the government allocated Rs 320 crore to support women across nine other districts during the first part of the scheme. Minister Neog has directed local officials to ensure the smooth implementation of the rollout to maximize its impact on women empowerment in the region.
