Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed the NDA 3.0 government's commitment to reclaiming more than 1,250 square kilometres of encroached land across the state. The administration has already mobilized on-ground operations to fulfill this pledge, with authorities actively conducting eviction drives across several districts to clear government and forest land occupied illegally.

The Chief Minister shared updates on social media, highlighting the progress of recent anti-encroachment efforts. This push for land recovery follows recent discussions regarding a proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state, which has sparked significant political debate.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has expressed strong opposition to the prospect of new socio-economic or citizenship surveys. AIUDF General Secretary Rafiqul Islam argued that such initiatives are unnecessary, asserting that the National Register of Citizens (NRC), completed after years of Supreme Court-monitored scrutiny, should be viewed as the definitive record. Islam noted that the NRC process effectively addressed concerns regarding migration, with the final 2019 list excluding 19 lakh people—a figure far lower than previous political estimates.
