Guwahati: The Assam government has officially suspended an ongoing land survey for a proposed satellite township in the Morigaon district. This decision follows three days of sustained demonstrations by members of the Tiwa and Bodo communities who strongly opposed the development project covering Sindhisar, Naldhara, and Bihita villages near Jagiroad.

Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Anamika Tewari issued a public notice confirming the immediate cancellation of the survey work. The administration had originally initiated these assessments in the Tiwa-inhabited villages to draft potential rehabilitation and relocation proposals. However, the plan triggered significant backlash, as the affected land falls within the protected Gobha Tribal Belt.
