Guwahati: The Assam government has formally introduced a resolution in the state assembly to secure one-third of seats for women in both Parliament and state legislatures. This push for gender representation aims to foster women's empowerment and encourage their broader participation in the political process.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog presented the proposal during the third day of the Assembly's first session. She called on all members to support the initiative, which seeks to implement the quota immediately following the conclusion of the ongoing delimitation exercise. The government views this shift as a necessary step toward achieving long-term gender equality across the nation's political institutions.
