Assam Floods Leave Thousands Stranded as Death Toll Hits One

Guwahati: Assam remains underwater. The latest data from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority shows 46,938 people struggling across six districts. The floodwaters reached Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur, and Biswanath.

Dhemaji took the heaviest hit with 45,841 people displaced. Officials confirmed the first fatality of the season on Tuesday. A woman died after drowning in floodwaters at Sissiborgaon. The agency reported, "The Brahmaputra and Disang rivers were flowing above the danger level."

The rising tide ruined 3,809 hectares of crops. Roads are torn up. Infrastructure across 221 villages sits under sludge. More than 450 people are sleeping in four cramped relief camps tonight. Six distribution centers are trying to get supplies to the survivors. It is not just humans at risk. More than 88,000 animals are trapped in the rising mess as crews continue to scramble for relief.
