Guwahati: Filmmaker Khanjan Kishore Nath is taking his Karbi-language feature, Kangbo Aloti, to major screens in Europe and North America. The film hits Germany first at the 23rd Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2026. It marks his return to the event after thirteen years.
The film also secured a spot at the Regina International Film Festival and Awards in Canada. This event qualifies for the Academy Awards. Nath draws on his own upbringing in the hills of Assam for the story. He spent his school years in Baithalangso. The filmmaker uses his work to document the history and traditions of the Karbi people.
Kangbo Aloti follows a young man tasked with recruiting militants in a remote village. He meets a schoolteacher and his worldview begins to crack. The plot tracks his shift from blind loyalty to a search for personal redemption. It explores how human connection battles long-held beliefs in areas facing unrest. Nath says the film is "a deeply personal exploration of conscience, identity, and redemption."
Nath is a native of Nagaon. He continues to push regional stories into global conversations. His previous short film, Saknoia, premiered at the same German festival in 2013.
