Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the state will expand the Olympic Values Education Programme to more than 40,000 schools across all 35 districts. The initiative aims to move beyond traditional academics to prioritize the holistic development of young learners by fostering discipline and essential life skills.
Sarma shared the update on social media, emphasizing the government's commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom. "Beyond academic excellence, we prioritise building discipline and teamwork in our students. Through the Olympic Values Education Programme, we are taking these lessons to 40,000+ schools across Assam and nurturing a generation ready to excel both inside and outside the classroom," Sarma said.
The program focuses on core Olympic principles including excellence, friendship, and respect. Officials stated that the curriculum is designed to promote healthy lifestyles, social inclusion, and improved academic focus. By integrating values-based learning into daily activities, the state hopes to sharpen leadership qualities and encourage fair play among students.
The government expects the project to benefit lakhs of children throughout the region. By merging standard education with character-building efforts, officials intend to equip educators with the tools needed to nurture a more well-rounded generation of students.
