Guwahati: In a strategic move to bolster digital financial inclusion, the Assam government distributed laptops to 71 DigiPay Sakhis on May 19 during a ceremony held in Amingaon. The event was attended by Kamrup District Magistrate Deba Kumar Mishra alongside other senior members of the district administration. This initiative, carried out under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission, represents a significant investment in empowering women at the grassroots level.
By equipping these women with essential technology, the government aims to transform Self-Help Group members into effective community banking agents. This transition is expected to strengthen last-mile digital banking services, ensuring that residents in remote rural areas have reliable access to financial tools. Officials emphasized that the program reflects the broader vision of Antyodaya and women empowerment currently championed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The broader goal of the DigiPay Sakhi initiative is to accelerate the implementation of Direct Benefit Transfers while increasing transparency in welfare delivery. By providing these digital resources, the administration hopes to reduce reliance on middlemen, improve local financial literacy, and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for women across the state.
