Guwahati: Assam is building five compressed biogas plants to turn trash into fuel. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the development on Tuesday, August 11. These sites will process municipal waste and agricultural residue into renewable energy for homes and farms. Two of these plants are already under construction in Tinsukia and Jorhat.

Each site in those districts will handle 125 tonnes of solid waste every day. These facilities support the federal GOBARdhan initiative, a program designed to change cattle dung and organic waste into biogas and bio-CNG. The state expects its own compressed biogas policy to accelerate this shift toward green energy. Sarma celebrated the progress on social media. "From Waste to Wealth!" he wrote, noting the benefits of the new infrastructure.
