Guwahati: Guwahati Metropolitan District Congress Committee members hit the streets on August 14. They held a padyatra and Satyagraha to protest the ritual cleansing of a meeting venue in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Opponents used Gangajal to purify the site after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a crowd there. The Assam party wing called the act discriminatory and condemned the practice.
Jorhat Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi led the rally. He warned the ruling party about the shelf life of political dominance. "Those in power should not assume that political power would remain permanent," Gogoi told the crowd. He vowed that his party would not back down. The Congress remains focused on defending the Constitution, democracy, and justice despite the use of police or administrative pressure.
Congress leader Mira Borthakur joined the protest. Party officials maintained that they will continue to fight against discrimination. They remain committed to protecting the rights outlined in the Constitution.
