Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee started its search for a Nagaon Lok Sabha candidate on Monday. Party members have until August 28 to submit their formal requests for the ticket. The window opened on August 24.
APCC general secretary Ramanna Baruah issued a circular detailing the requirements for the bid. Candidates must pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 1 lakh to apply. The process follows a direct mandate from APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.
The seat sits vacant after former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi jumped ship. Bordoloi quit the party shortly before the Assam Assembly elections to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. He won the Dispur Assembly seat as a BJP candidate. Now, the Congress is looking to rebuild. Gaurav Gogoi said the party aims to build a "new Congress" in line with public expectations.
